Stephen J. Purdey received his PhD in International Relations from the University of Toronto in 2007, and is the author of Economic Growth, the Environment and International Relations: The Growth Paradigm (Routledge 2010). This work explores the origins and environmental impact of the ubiquitous political commitment to economic growth. Dr. Purdey’s current research focuses on the theoretical and normative attributes of systems of global governance, and on the practical construction of such systems.

Prior to his academic career, Dr. Purdey worked for several years in the private sector, in Canadian federal politics, and with NGOs such as the United Nations Association, the World Federalists and the Earth Council.
