Edward W. Thommes is a Health Outcomes Manager at GlaxoSmithKline Canada. In addition, he is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Guelph researching multidisciplinary computational modeling under a NSERC Discovery Grant. He completed his PhD in Astrophysics at Queen’s University and was subsequently awarded the J.S. Plaskett Medal of the Canadian Astronomical Society and the Royal Astronomical Society for most outstanding Canadian doctoral thesis in astronomy, 2001-2002. He has held several postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California at Berkley, NASA Ames Research Center, University of Toronto and Northwestern University.
He has a wide range of research interests including planetary science, high-performance computing, agent-based models, epidemiological modeling, population behavior and game theory and has contributed numerous publications in journals such as Nature, Science, the Astronomical Journal and the Astrophysical Journal.
