The Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI) is thrilled to present two talks with Lewis Dartnell, best-selling author of The Knowledge: How To Rebuild Our World From Scratch (www.the-knowledge.org).

Maybe it was an asteroid impact, a nuclear war, or a viral pandemic. Whatever the cause, the world as we know it has ended and you and the other survivors must start again. What key knowledge would you need to not only survive in the immediate post-apocalyptic aftermath, but avert another Dark Ages and accelerate the rebooting of civilization from scratch?

The Knowledge is a grand thought experiment on the behind-the-scenes fundamentals of how our world works, and what drove the progression of civilization over the centuries.

WICI has partnered with THEMUSEUM and Words Worth Books to present a public lecture with Lewis Dartnell on Wednesday, March 11 at 7pm at THEMUSEUM (10 King Street West, Kitchener). A book signing will follow the lecture. The cost for this event is $5 +HST (which includes admission to THEMUSEUM’s current exhibits, Dinosaurs | | The Edge of Extinction, and Getting Naked). More information is available here.

Dr. Dartnell will also be speaking at the University of Waterloo on Tuesday, March 10 at 2pm in Room 1302 of the Davis Centre. This talk, entitled “Knowledge and Civilization: Technical and Theoretical Considerations,” will be an exploration of the ideas, concepts and themes that are behind The Knowledge, including the nature of invention, and the relationship between scientific knowledge and technical know-how. Details about this UW talk are available here.
