1846_KotsireasIlias Kotsireas received his undergraduate education at the University of Athens (Greece) and the Universite Paris 6 (France). He earned his PhD from the Universite Paris 6 in 1998 holding a 3-year scholarship from the Ministry of National Education. Subsequently he was awarded a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Western Ontario (London, ON, Canada) in 1999-2000. In 2001 he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, ON, Canada). He was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in 2006 and to Full Professor in 2011. He has over 100 refereed publications, edited books and special issues of journals in the areas of Computational Algebra, Metaheuristics, Dynamical Systems and Combinatorial Design Theory. He serves on the Editorial Board of 7 international journals published by De Gruyter, Elsevier, Springer and Wiley. He has organized a large number of international conferences in Europe, North America and Asia, often serving as a Program Committee Chair or General Chair. He was a co-founder of the Computational Science seminar at Wilfrid Laurier University and served as the seminar coordinator from 2004 to 2014. His research is and has been funded by NSERC and the European Union. He has received funding for conference organization from Maplesoft, the Fields Institute and several Wilfrid Laurier University offices. He was elected Chair of ACM SIGSAM in June 2013.
