pembleton_profilepicCorey Pembleton is completing an MSc in Geomatics in the Geography Department, Faculty of Environment, University of Waterloo, Canada. His research focuses on how urban climate change resilience challenges can be addressed by taking a geospatial approach to urban design (geodesign). As an emerging field in geospatial sciences, geodesign incorporates complexity principles by furthering understanding of human-environment interactions, and how scientific methods can aid often difficult decision making in the social, political and economic spheres. Corey’s approach is the amalgamation of urban and environmental design with systems thinking, impact simulations, geographic information sciences (GIS) and digital technology, making this approach for problem solving inherently interdisciplinary and complex.

After receiving his BEs in International Development at the University of Waterloo, Corey worked as an environmental consultant in Hanoi, Vietnam with the Vietnam Cleaner Production Centre on a project seeking to establish a sustainable aquaculture system in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Corey’s consulting work continues today providing assistance to non-profit organizations in terms of research, proposal development, and project management under his own company, Progressive Mapping and Analytics (progressivemapping.ca).
