Mat Schulze is a Professor of German (Applied Linguistics) and the director of the Waterloo Centre for German Studies. His main field of research is Computer-Assisted Language Learning. Here he conceptualizes language-learning processes online as complex adaptive systems to better understand individual language proficiency development and corrective metalinguistic feedback and guidance.
