Yu Huang

Yu Huang is currently completing her PhD degree in Urban Planning at the School of Planning, University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on the complex interactions within the urban housing market system and the emergent urban patterns and market dynamics. Specifically, based on a home buyer and seller survey, she will explore the heterogeneous location choice preferences and behaviour, and investigate how they influence the urban system using an agent-based modelling approach. She will also examine the land use and transportation interactions within the system, specifically, to probe into how the LRT system has affected residential location choices in the pre-build stage. Her research will provide an effective source of information for the public sector to advance citizen engagement and enhance decision making of urban growth strategies and policies.

Yu completed an MSc in Geography from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her interest in complex system started from the research on the land use changes under the context of global climate change. She is enthusiastic to explore the complexity in the urban system and seek applicable solutions for tackling the suburbanization, downtown decline and climate change issues within the urban system.
