Complexity and the Environment

• NECSI Research Projects- Environmental Complexity wants to understand the effect of environmental complexity on elderly individuals. A measure of environmental complexity can quantify the notion of sensory stimulation/deprivation and its effects on the maintenance of cognitive functions.

• Forest Modelling Complexity is a new interuniversity, interdisciplinary bilingual program that aims at training outstanding national and international undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows. Funded by NSERC through its CREATE program for six years, the program received a 1 650 000$ grant.

• Modeling Environmental Complexity is a course that provides an introduction to the study of environmental phenomena that exhibit both organized structure and wide variability—i.e., complexity.

• Stockholm University, Department of Systems Ecology is located out of the Department of Systems Ecology at Stockholm University and studies both basic and applied ecological problems, with an emphasis on coastal and marine ecosystems and coupled social-ecological systems.
